PugLife - First Tattoo

The cliche saying of people stating 'I've always wanted a tattoo' does apply here. My 25th birthday was on March 20th, so I figured if there was ever a time to get a tattoo it would be on my quarter life crisis. As some of you know I love my puppies! I have two pet Pugs, Thug, who I've had for almost 3 years and and the newest addition to the family, Bones. Thug needed a buddy when my husband and I are away at work so we got Bones to keep him company.

Thuggity being the oldest, I wanted to get a portrait of him done first. I knew I wanted something really rendered. He's such a good looking pug and trust me I've seen some ugly looking pugs in my lifetime so I wanted to showcase all his unique features. I'll most definitely get a portrait of Bones done when he grows up a little more later.

Picking a tattoo artist, I was lucky enough to get an amazing tattoo artist my husband knew from high school. He's art work is beautifully rendered and I knew he'd do a fantastic job with something like this. My suggestion when picking a tattoo artist is really about the style of how you'd want your tattoo to be. I would research for an artist who showcases that style and level of talent you're comfortable with. Finding someone with references I think is ideal and of course seeing their previous work is helpful as well.

Now for level of pain, I knew I wanted it to be done on my arm near my wrist. Seeing this was my first tattoo I didn't know what to expect other than what others had told me. I'm a nervous person to begin with so naturally I was extra nervous during my appointment. The pain itself wasn't so bad, it was more annoying than painful. I'd rate the pain a 5 in the scale of 1 being no pain to 10 being super painful. The tattoo took about 2 hours to complete and I'm so happy with it!

I had my husband forward Raul, the tattoo artist a picture I took of Thug the pug. I came in for my appointment and he already had the outline and the picture printed out as a reference and was ready to go. The tattoo artist's work can be found HERE, he works at Asylum Tattoo in Williamsburg. A special thank you to Zamie, my husband who made my birthday the best one yet!

I hung out with my friend Faye and her boyfriend Keith who took some pictures of my all white outfit I wore that day. I have to say my birthday weekend was lovely and I'm so thankful to all my friends and family who came out and made it so special.
