So I've been wanting to spice up my blog with a few great interviews, outfit challenges and more. I wanted to make your time here not time wasted, but time well spent. I recently had the chance to interview a friend of mine, Scarlett who I've known for a while about her hand modeling! I've always been fascinated with her career choice and I've seen her hands in some pretty big magazines and I've been dying to know how she broke into the hand modeling game.
Tell us about yourself?
Hey! I'm Scarlett Angelina. I am 23 years-old and reside in NJ. But I practically live in NYC, because that's where I work! I have been hand modeling for five years now, and I absolutely love it! Some of my clients include Cosmopolitan magazine, Sephora, Bulova watches, and Bloomingdales.
How does one get into hand modeling? How did you get into it?
Well, as a petite model I asked myself, what am I not limited to modeling? Modeling is my dream and passion, and it's really tough constantly being turned away from agencies because of height. I knew I had a beautiful face, hands, and overall parts. So I researched into parts modeling, found a photographer, and then submitted to Dani at Parts Models. The rest is history!
Which shoot has been your all time fave shoot to hand model in?
My all time favorite was definitely Sephora - such a huge campaign! It was amazing to walk into the Sephora store in Union square and see an entire nail station with just my hands! I really love nails and nail art. Sephora is just a really fun client to work with.
How do you prep your hands for a shoot?
I make sure that I have no nail polish on, put on lots of protective top coat, and soak my hands in warm olive oil while watching TV. Sometimes I will even sleep with my oily hands in Ziploc bags. That way, gloves or other material doesn't absorb the oil - the Ziploc bags make sure that your hands soak up as much oil as possible. It's a great way to keep them soft and hydrated.
What's your fave hand cream?
AHAVA dead sea mineral hand cream FOR SURE.
Your nails have been in a few magazines, how were those experiences?
They were really great! It was amazing when clients kept calling me back for more shoots. You build a repertoire and relationship with a client on set. So it's important to do the best job you can while on camera, and be really easy to work with. And then while you're in between shots - just relaxing, changing the nail look, or eating lunch - be really personable! That's the time I use to get to know my clients and have random conversation. So they not only like me because of my hands, but my personality as well. Those little experiences are what make the experience of always being called back even better. It's great to work with the same people who love you for your talent and personality!
